Utah Fits All Scholarship Renewal: How to Keep Your Award Year After Year
Keeping your Utah Fits All Scholarship is easier than getting it in the first place — but only if you meet two non-negotiable deadlines and submit the right documentation. Meeting both renewal requirements qualifies an otherwise eligible student for Tier 1 renewal priority; it does not guarantee an award if funding is limited.
The Two Things You Must Do
1. Submit a portfolio or standardized test results by May 31. Home-based scholarship students must provide one of:
- An educational portfolio describing your child's accomplishments and learning opportunities during the scholarship year — work samples, course outlines, reading lists, or progress summaries all qualify
- Results from a national norm-referenced achievement test or standardized exam
The program manager cannot share portfolio contents with third parties without your written consent.
2. Submit your renewal application by April 30. The renewal window opens March 1 — a full month before new applicants can apply. Use that head start.
Why Renewal Priority Matters
Renewing recipients who meet the statutory criteria sit in Tier 1, the highest priority for award distribution. If funds run out within a tier, remaining awards in that tier are distributed by lottery. Siblings of students with a current account or one in the immediately preceding school year land in Tier 2, which means maintaining your renewal also protects your other children's applications.
What About Rollover Balances
Under Utah Code § 53F-6-402 and § 53F-6-411, unspent scholarship balances at the end of the year follow specific rollover provisions set by statute. If a student exits the program mid-year, remaining unspent funds are returned to the restricted program account and redistributed to waitlisted students. The program manager handles rollover accounting through the Odyssey platform — you don't need to manually transfer anything.

What Happens if You Don't Renew
If you miss the May 31 portfolio deadline or the March 1–April 30 renewal window, your child does not meet the Tier 1 renewal criteria. A later application is assessed under the applicable new-applicant priority tier; the award rules do not guarantee that a returning student will receive an award.
