Utah Fits All Scholarship 2026–2027: Application Deadlines and Key Dates

The Annual Calendar at a Glance

The Utah Fits All Scholarship follows an annual statutory calendar. Missing any of these dates can cost your family thousands of dollars. Check the Odyssey notice for the current cycle's exact cutoff and submission instructions.

March 1 — Renewal window opens. If your child held an active scholarship in the current year, this is when you can apply for next year. Renewing families get Tier 1 priority, which means you're funded first before any new applicants.

April 1 — New applicant window opens. First-time families can submit applications starting here. You've got one month.

April 30 / May 1 — Application portal closes. Both renewing and new applications lock at this deadline. The portal shuts down and there is no late submission mechanism.

May 31 — Two things happen on this date. The program manager must issue award notifications by this deadline. Separately, renewing students must submit their annual portfolio or standardized test results by May 31 to maintain eligibility. Missing the portfolio deadline can bump you out of Tier 1 renewal priority.

Before July 1 — Accept or decline your award. Once you receive an award notification, formally accept by the deadline stated in the notice. If you don't respond by the deadline, your offer is forfeited and the award goes to the next person on the waitlist.

July 1 — Scholarship year officially begins. Your spending account activates for the new academic year.

July 31 — First disbursement deadline. The first half of your annual award must be deposited into your Odyssey digital wallet by this date.

December 31 — Second disbursement deadline. The remaining half of your award lands by year's end.

What Changed for the 2026–2027 Cycle

The 2026–27 year brought a bigger appropriation — $120 million, up from $100 million the previous year — and an estimated 18,000+ available awards. The program has grown every year since its 2023 launch.

HB 467, passed in the 2026 legislative session, introduced several changes that affect this cycle:

  • Public school athletics access. Starting in 2026–27, scholarship recipients can participate in public school sports and extracurricular activities within their resident school district, under the same rules as traditional homeschool students.
  • Updated definitions. The statute refined what "home-based scholarship student" means, clarifying the legal distinction from traditional affidavit homeschoolers.
  • Dispute resolution improvements. If your application is denied due to an administrative error, the program manager must immediately reinstate your eligibility and issue an award if funds are available; otherwise, the student goes to the top of the waitlist.

These changes apply automatically. You don't need to do anything different in your application to benefit from them.

The Opt-In Window Strategy

The one-month overlap between March 1 (renewals open) and April 1 (new applicants open) exists because the program funds renewals before processing any new applications. If you're a current recipient, submitting your renewal on March 1 is strategically identical to submitting it on April 29 — you're Tier 1 either way.

But for new applicants, timing within the application window doesn't change your priority tier. An application submitted early or late in the open window is assigned under the same priority rules. What matters is your priority tier, not your submission date.

The real strategic move is ensuring your income verification documents are complete and accurate. Moving from Tier 4 (general lottery) to Tier 3 (income-qualified) dramatically improves your odds when funding doesn't stretch to cover everyone.

Award Acceptance: Don't Let It Expire

The acceptance window is the deadline most families underestimate. You receive a notification through the Odyssey portal and your registered email. You must log in and formally accept the award by the deadline in your notification, which is before July 1.

There's no second chance. An expired acceptance means your award goes to the waitlist, and you'd need to apply again in the next annual cycle. If you're traveling, check your email. If you're moving, update your contact information in the portal before May.

Planning Around These Dates

If you're applying for the first time, work backward from April 30: gather your residency documents and income verification by mid-March, create your Odyssey account in the last week of March, and submit your application in the first week of April so you have time to fix any document issues before the portal locks.
