Hope Scholarship Deposit Dates: When Does the Money Hit Your Account?
One of the most common questions from Hope Scholarship families is deceptively simple: when does the money actually show up? The answer depends on which application window you used, whether your approval is fully processed, and the tier-specific disbursement schedule.
The Two-Tranche Schedule
The 100% Hope Scholarship award is deposited in two equal installments per academic year — not quarterly, despite the term "quarterly disbursement" that circulates in parent groups. The published schedule lists October and January 15 deposits for the 75% tier, a January 15 deposit for the 50% tier, and a spring disbursement for the 25% tier.
| Tranche | Target Date | Amount (100% Award) |
|---|---|---|
| Fall deposit | August 15, 2026 | $2,717.81 |
| Spring deposit | January 15, 2027 | $2,717.81 |
Both tranches deposit directly into the student's digital portal account. The Board does not issue paper checks, direct bank deposits, or cash payments. Funds appear in the TheoPay platform balance, where they can be used for approved educational purchases.
How Funding Tiers Affect Deposit Amounts
If you applied during a later window, your total award is prorated and follows the deposit schedule for that funding tier:
| Window | Total Award | Listed Deposit Schedule |
|---|---|---|
| 100% (March 2 – June 15) | $5,435.62 | August 15 and January 15; two equal deposits of $2,717.81 |
| 75% (June 16 – Sept 15) | $4,076.72 | October and January 15 |
| 50% (Sept 16 – Nov 30) | $2,717.81 | January 15 |
| 25% (Dec 1 – Feb 28) | $1,358.91 | Spring disbursement |
The 50% window's listed disbursement date is January 15, not an October fall deposit. Applicants in the 25% window receive their entire award in a single spring disbursement.
October Processing for the 75% Tier
For the 75% tier, the published schedule lists deposits in October and January 15. Check the portal and email notices for your application status and any requests for missing information.

Rollover Rules
Unused funds from one academic year roll over into the next, as long as the student maintains continuous enrollment through the annual Continued Participation Confirmation (CPC) and submits assessment results by June 30. Rollover balances add to the next year's award — they are not "use it or lose it" within the year.
However, funds left unspent when a student graduates, turns 21, or withdraws from the program are forfeited back to the state. You cannot transfer remaining balances to siblings or convert them to personal savings.
When Funds Don't Arrive
The most common reasons for delayed deposits:
- Missing Hope NOI. A missing Hope Notice of Intent can delay or withhold funding. Confirm with the county that it received your form, and check portal and email notices for any follow-up.
- Annual renewal compliance. The Continued Participation Confirmation is due by June 15, and renewal requires proof of annual assessment compliance. Check the portal for renewal status and submit the required assessment results by June 30.
- Document discrepancy. A mismatch between the parent name on residency proof and the portal Account Holder profile pauses processing until corrected.
The West Virginia Hope Scholarship Parent Guide includes a deposit timeline tracker and troubleshooting steps for each delay scenario, so you know exactly when to expect funds and what to do if they're late.
