How to Renew MOScholars: Annual Renewal Process Explained

MOScholars scholarships must be renewed annually. If you want funding to continue, coordinate with your EAO — renewal is not automatic. Missouri law gives first grant priority to qualified students who received a scholarship in the previous school year.

When to Renew

Each EAO sets and communicates its renewal deadline. Check your EAO's portal and email communications for the date and required steps.

The statute prioritizes qualified students who received a scholarship grant in the previous school year, followed by qualified siblings of students who will receive a grant in the current school year. Submit your renewal by the deadline your EAO gives you.

What You Need to Submit

Your EAO will tell you which records it needs for renewal. The Treasurer's 2026–27 Parent Handbook lists attendance at a qualified school, annual parent surveys, grade-appropriate annual testing, and annual renewal coordination among the renewal requirements. Ask your EAO whether it also needs updated income, residency, or IEP/ISP records.

  • Annual assessment results: complete the grade-appropriate annual nationally standardized norm-referenced test listed in the Treasurer's handbook. Missouri law also requires state achievement or nationally norm-referenced tests in grades covered by the statewide assessment system. Ask your EAO which test to take, when results are due, and how to submit them.

Returning Student Priority

Qualified students who received a grant in the previous school year are first in the statutory grant order. Qualified siblings of students who will receive a grant in the current school year are next, followed by students with an approved IEP or diagnosed dyslexia and the other statutory categories. The statute does not create a separate “good standing” tier or an added priority for multiple consecutive years.

Maintaining Eligibility for Renewal

The Treasurer's handbook lists attendance at a qualified school, completion of annual parent surveys, grade-appropriate annual testing, and annual renewal with the EAO as renewal requirements. Follow your EAO's instructions for each item.

Unused Funds Roll Over

At the end of a school year, unspent account funds remain in the student's account and are not returned to the EAO. You must renew with your EAO to continue in the program and use rollover funds. If you withdraw or are disqualified, or your student graduates, the account closes and remaining funds are returned to the EAO for redistribution.

This rollover incentivizes conservative spending early in the year. Families who are unsure whether a particular expense qualifies can hold back, verify with their EAO, and spend later without losing the funds.

Track Your EAO's Timeline

Your EAO communicates its renewal deadline. Check its portal and email, and submit the renewal materials it requests by that date.
