NH EFA Application Deadlines: Spring Window, Fall Window, and the July 15 Cutoff
Two Windows, Different Rules
The New Hampshire EFA operates on two distinct application windows, each with its own priority rules and funding implications. Understanding which window you're applying in determines when (and how much) funding your family receives.
The Spring Window
The spring window is the primary application period. This is when CSF NH processes renewals and new applications for the upcoming school year. There's no hard open date published — CSF NH typically opens the portal in late winter or early spring — but the deadline that matters is July 15.
Applications that are fully verified by July 15 receive 100% of the annual EFA grant, disbursed in four quarterly tranches starting in September.
For renewing families, the spring window is when you submit updated residency verification, sign the new Parent Agreement, and upload the Record of Educational Attainment by July 15. Renewing students who complete this process hold Priority Tier 1 status — their seats are reserved under the enrollment cap before new applicants are considered.
New applicants also benefit from applying during the spring window. When the enrollment cap isn't yet full, new applicants are processed in priority tier order (siblings, then special needs, then income-qualified, then general pool) with time to verify before the school year begins.
The Fall Window
Applications submitted after June 30 enter the fall rolling window. CSF NH continues to process applications through February 28 for the current school year.
The critical restriction: only applicants who qualify under Priority Tiers 2, 3, or 4 (siblings of current EFA students, students with disabilities, or families at or below 350% FPL) can receive prorated mid-year EFA funding once the enrollment cap has been reached. Non-priority fall applicants go on the waitlist if seats are full.
Fall-verified students receive prorated quarterly disbursements — only the tranches remaining after their verification date. A student verified in October misses the September tranche and receives roughly 80% of the annual award. Verification in January captures about 60%.
Applications received between March 1 and May 31 are processed for the following academic year, not the current one.
Why July 15 Is the Date to Circle
July 15 isn't just the assessment deadline for renewing families. It's the funding threshold for everyone.
- Applications verified before July 15: full annual award
- Applications verified after July 15: prorated award based on remaining quarterly payments
CSF NH's verification process takes 4-6 weeks. Working backwards from July 15, your application with all supporting documents should be submitted by late May or early June to clear in time.
Common reasons verification gets delayed:
- Missing or illegible residency documentation
- Incomplete special education certification (medical form unsigned or missing required fields)
- Income verification documents that don't match the applicant's stated household
- Multiple children listed on one application with inconsistent information
Every document request that goes back to you adds days or weeks to the review.
The Practical Timeline
| When | What to Do |
|---|---|
| February–March | Gather documentation: residency proof, birth certificates, IEP or medical forms if applicable, tax returns if seeking income-based priority |
| April–May | Submit application through nh.scholarshipfund.org with all documents attached |
| May–June | Schedule standardized test or portfolio evaluation (for renewing families) |
| By July 1 | Target date for all documents uploaded, giving CSF NH two weeks to verify |
| July 15 | Deadline for full-year award; assessment documentation due for renewals |
| September | First quarterly disbursement (20%) deposited into ClassWallet |
Seat priority is determined by statutory tier. Applying early gives CSF NH time to verify your documents before the July 15 funding threshold and gives you room to fix any documentation issues.
