Georgia Promise Scholarship Zone Lookup and Verification

What the Attendance Zone Requirement Actually Means

Your child's eligibility for the Georgia Promise Scholarship depends partly on where you live, not where your child currently goes to school. The test is whether your home address falls within the geographic attendance boundaries of a traditional public school that appears on GOSA's bottom-25% list.

This is a critical distinction. Your child might attend a different school — a magnet program across town, a charter school, or even a school in an adjacent district through open enrollment. None of that matters for the zone test. GESA looks at your residential address and the school it maps to under the local district's standard attendance zone boundaries.

How to Check Your Zone

Step 1: Find your assigned school. Every school district in Georgia publishes attendance zone maps or offers an address lookup tool on its website. Enter your home address to find which elementary, middle, and high school your address is zoned for. You're looking for the school your child would be assigned to if you enrolled them in the neighborhood public school — the default assignment, not a school of choice.

Step 2: Check the GOSA list. The Governor's Office of Student Achievement publishes the bottom-25% school list annually. For the 2026-27 academic year, the list was finalized on February 26, 2026. GOSA calculates it by averaging 2024 and 2025 College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) Single Scores.

The application portal is MyGeorgiaPromise.org. Compare your residential address with the district's attendance-zone information and the current GOSA list. If the address assignment is unclear, ask the district enrollment office to confirm it and contact GESA about any documentation it needs.

Step 3: Check school assignments for your address. Districts can assign different schools by grade level. If the elementary, middle, or high school assignment gives different results, ask GESA which attendance assignment applies to your application before relying on one of them.

Schools GOSA Excludes From the List

GOSA excludes several categories of public schools from the bottom-25% calculation, regardless of their actual CCRPI scores:

  • State and locally authorized charter schools
  • Conversion charter schools
  • Online and virtual public schools
  • Non-traditional and alternative schools
  • Primary schools serving only Pre-K through 2nd grade
  • Residential treatment facilities
  • Department of Juvenile Justice schools
  • State schools for the blind and deaf
  • Magnet schools
  • Schools missing required CCRPI data for either calculation year

If your zoned school falls into one of these categories, it won't appear on the GOSA list no matter how it scores. Your address wouldn't qualify through that school.

When the List Changes

GOSA recalculates the list every year using updated CCRPI data. A school on this year's list might improve its scores and drop off next year's list, or a school not currently listed might decline and be added.

For returning scholarship students, this doesn't matter — grandfathering protections under O.C.G.A. § 20-2B-22(d) keep your eligibility intact even if your zoned school leaves the bottom-25% list after you've been approved. But for new applicants, including younger siblings applying for the first time, the current year's list is what counts.

Check GOSA's current list before each application window; the list is updated annually.

Edge Cases: Moving, Multi-Zone Addresses, and Split Zones

If you move: Your address affects the zone check for a new application. Before an in-state move, ask GESA whether the new address affects renewal; the grandfathering rule covers a participating student's assigned school later leaving the GOSA list. Moving your primary residence outside Georgia triggers account closure.

If your address straddles zone lines: Some subdivisions or apartment complexes sit on district or zone boundaries. Ask the district enrollment office to confirm the assigned school in writing, then ask GESA whether it needs that confirmation for your application.

If you rent: Your lease agreement serves as both residency proof and zone verification. Make sure the lease shows your specific unit address, not just the complex name.
