Homeschool Programs Victoria: Online and Structured Options
Choosing a homeschool program in Victoria is complicated by the sheer number of options — and by confusion about what you're actually required to use. The short answer: you're not required to use any specific program. The VRQA assesses your educational provision against the eight Key Learning Areas, not against any curriculum or program.
That said, structured programs can significantly reduce your planning workload and simplify VRQA documentation. Here's what's available.
Australian-Designed Programs
MyHomeschool ($550-880 AUD/year per child) offers the most comprehensive structured option for Victorian families. Their plans are mapped to both the Australian and Victorian Curriculum, and they include scope and sequence documents, quarterly report templates, and registration support. The format assumes a structured, sequential approach — if you prefer project-based or child-led learning, it'll feel constraining.
Euka (from approximately $550/year per child) provides semester-based programs with lesson plans, student workbooks, and assessment tools aligned to the Australian Curriculum. Their approach balances structure with some flexibility, and they offer support for VRQA registration.
Simply Homeschool offers term-by-term planning guides with Australian Curriculum alignment at a lower price point. Less comprehensive than MyHomeschool or Euka, but provides enough structure to guide planning without dictating every lesson.
Online Learning Platforms
Several online platforms provide subject-specific or comprehensive instruction that Victorian families use to supplement or replace traditional curriculum:
Virtual School Victoria (VSV) is a government school, not a homeschool program — but it's an important option. VSV offers enrolled students a full Victorian Curriculum program with qualified teachers. Home-educated students registered with the VRQA for 12+ months can enrol in VSV for Year 10 and VCE without meeting standard entry criteria. This requires deregistering from home education.
Khan Academy (free) covers maths and science comprehensively with video lessons, practice exercises, and progress tracking. Strong for families who want structured maths without purchasing a curriculum.
Reading Eggs and Mathseeds (subscription) offer adaptive, game-based learning for primary-aged students. Good supplementary resources but unlikely to satisfy VRQA requirements as a sole curriculum.
Outschool offers live, small-group online classes across every subject. Classes are typically $15-30 AUD per session, taught by educators worldwide. Useful for subjects where you want external instruction — foreign languages, advanced sciences, creative writing, coding.
International Curriculum Options
Some Victorian families follow international curricula:
Cambridge IGCSE offers structured courses with internationally recognised qualifications. Students sit external exams as private candidates. This pathway generates formal credentials without school enrolment.
Various US curricula (Sonlight, BJU, Saxon Math) are popular in the broader homeschool market but require careful adaptation for VRQA purposes — they don't map to the eight KLAs automatically, and terminology differences can create documentation confusion.

Choosing Based on Your Priorities
If documentation ease is your priority: MyHomeschool or Euka — they generate VRQA-aligned records almost automatically.
If budget is your priority: Free resources (Khan Academy, ABC Education, library programs) combined with intentional documentation.
If flexibility is your priority: Eclectic approach using selected resources across platforms, with your own documentation framework.
If formal credentials are your priority: Consider VSV (for VCE), TAFE (for vocational qualifications), or Cambridge IGCSE (for international credentials).
Whatever program or combination you choose, you still need a documentation system that captures your educational activity and maps it to the eight KLAs. The Victoria Portfolio & Assessment Templates provides that framework, working alongside any curriculum or program.
